Clarence N. Grush

(Fort Wayne)

     During WWII T/SGT Grush served as a machinist in the the Army Air Force.  After the war, he remained in the Air Force staying on active duty and then transferred to the Air Force Reserves.  The uniform shown here is a an Army Eisenhower jacket. This was a transitional uniform worn prior to the Air Force receiving their blue uniform. The shoulder sleeve insignia is that of the 10th Air Force, which after the war, was responsible for Air Force Reserves.

First Lieutenant John R. Flynn, Jr.

(Fort Wayne)

     A graduate of Virginia Military Academy, 1LT Flynn was assigned to the 47th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, 15th Fighter Interceptor Group stationed at Niagara Falls, New York.

     On August 27, 1959, while flying a routine mission, his aircraft, an F-102A Delta Dagger, disintegrated in mid-air.  An accident review board found that the aircraft suffered a mechanical failure.

     A memorial plaque was placed in his honor at the Air Force Academy where he had served as an AIr Training Officer.

Cadet Jay Strauch

(Walton)

     CDT (later Captain) Strauch entered the academy in 1972, graduating in 1976.  After graduation, he served as fighter pilot for seven years.
