The Cold War

1946-1990

At the end of World War II military and political tensions existed between the western powers and the Soviet Union including  its allies in the Warsaw Pact.  This period of tension was known as the Cold War, although two very hot wars in Korea and Vietnam were fought.  The fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 signaled the end of the Cold War and eventually the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
