In 1939, Germany invaded Poland causing France and Great Britain to declare war on her.  Even though the US didn't enter the war until after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor (December 7, 1941) many Hoosiers joined the Allied forces prior to this date. Around 456,000 Indiana men and women served in all theaters throughout the war.
